Ted Cruz has been a Consistent Conservative throughout his Career supporting Religious Freedom and Liberty.Cruz has spent his entire professional career defending the U.S. Constitution. No one has fought harder to protect the people from Obama' s unconstitutional policies and actions, such as Obamacare, amnesty, and religious liberty and free speech violations.Religious Freedom: • In January 2014, Cruz authored an amicus brief defending Hobby Lobby and Conestoga. • In June 2013, Cruz introduced two amendments to NDAA to protect service members religious liberty. They were adopted in the passage of the 2013 NDAA • Co-sponsored the First Amendment Defense Act, which would prevent any federal agency from denying a tax exemption, grant, contract, license, or certification to an individual, association, or business based on their belief that marriage is a union between a man and a woman. • Defended "Under God": authored an amicus brief as Solicitor General on behalf of all 50 states defending voluntary, teacher-led recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools, which the Supreme Court agreed was not in violation of the Constitution's Establishment Clause. • Defended the Ten Commandments monument on Texas State Capitol grounds and won the case at the Supreme Court. • Defended the cross that commemorates veterans in the Mojave desert. • In November 2013, Cruz released a statement on his opposition to the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which could infringe on religious liberty and invite lawsuits. Cruz believes that the decision to make sexual orientation a protected class should be left to the states. • Galvanized national support for Houston pastors who had been subpoenaed by the City of Houston to provide the content of their sermons forcing the City to back down. • Supported the right of students to display banners containing religious content at school sporting events. • Successfully defended the constitutionality of the Texas Ten Commandments monument, winning a 5-4 landmark decision before the U.S. Supreme Court, setting an important national precedent for the right to display similar monuments. • Fought to help the Boy Scouts of America to reverse a district court ruling barring them from leasing a public park. The Supreme Court's gay marriage opinion puts tens of millions of Americans at risk of prosecution or lawsuits if they have religious objections to gay marriage. As President, Ted Cruz will protect religious liberty and make sure that no business owner or individual faces lawsuits or risks prosecution if they follow the teachings of their faith on marriage. • In January 2015, Cruz co-sponsored a bill to create a federal ban on abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy and urged Congress to take up the legislation. • In March 2015, Cruz introduced two resolutions of disapproval to the D.C. Ordinances, one, the Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Amendment Act, could require pro-life organizations to fund abortion services in employee's health care and could force them to hire someone who supports abortion. The House passed the resolution, but unfortunately, the Senate failed to bring it before committee. • In May 2013, Cruz co-sponsored Senator Mike Lee's resolution to investigate abortion practices in the US in light of the Gosnell case. He spoke on the floor and condemned Gosnell's unspeakable crimes. • Argued (successfully) before the Supreme Court in defense of the federal ban on partial-birth abortion. • Successfully defended in federal court Texas's Rider 8, which prohibits state funds for groups that provide abortions. • In April 2015, Cruz introduced a marriage amendment and bill to defend states that define marriage as between one man and one woman.
• The Protect
Marriage from the
Courts Act of 2015 bars federal courts from ruling on state marriage
laws. Pursuant to Congress' power under Article III of the Constitution
to limit the jurisdiction of the lower federal courts and to make
exceptions to the appellate jurisdiction of the Supreme Court, this
legislation restricts the jurisdiction of federal courts to determine
the constitutionality of state laws defining marriage as the union of
one man and one woman.
• In April 2015, Cruz joined an amicus brief
supporting the rightof states to define marriage. • In February 2015, Cruz reintroduced the State Marriage Defense Act. He originally introduced it in February, 2014. Please
join our movement of Courageous Conservatives supporting Ted Cruz for
President 2016.
