Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki and
former Gov. Robert List spoke with reporters after the
presentation. List said, "The state really wants it; the city
really wants it." Krolicki stated, "We think we have a marvelous
business proposition." Pointing to 22,000 conventions the city
held last year and 150,000 hotel rooms, Krolicki declared that, "Las
Vegas is the convention capital of the world." "We don't think
any city on this planet can match what we have to offer," said
Krolicki. List countered the city's "sin city" image, stating,
"We're not just blackjack dealers and pawnshop operators." "It's
a big metropolitan area," List said. On the critical question of
finances, List said, "I think we can raise the money, more money than
any other city." He also said that holding the convention in Las
Vegas could help give Republicans "a fresh face and a new look."
Las Vegas is seen as something of a frontrunner, but Krolicki demurred
on that point, saying merely that the city is "proud to be in the elite
eight." Key people making the Las Vegas presentation to the site selection committee, in addition to Lt. Gov. Krolicki and former Gov. List, were Rossi Ralenkotter, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority; Chris Meyer, vice president of Global Business Sales at LVCVA; and Jack St. Martin, executive director of Las Vegas 2016. Note: List served as governor of Nevada from 1979-83, was a member of the RNC in the 2012 cycle, and is CEO of The Robert List Company, a consulting firm, and senior partner Kolesar & Leatham. |
