May 15, 2014 - Adam Ebbin.
Closing Statement:

Thank you Dranesville Dems, thank you Providence Democrats, Fairfax YDs, Glenn and Rip.  Now I am Adam Ebbin and I want to answer one important question.  Patrick Hope, you know you can trust me.  And you can too. [gesturing to the audience].  Now for 11 years I've been representing Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria as an effective member of the General Assembly, and I'm an Elizabeth Warren Democrat, and I think that's why last week Keith Ellison, congressional co-chair of the Progressive Caucus, endorsed my candidacy.

I'm not the flashiest.  I'm not the loudest, and as I said I'm not going to make the loftiest promises, but for more than a decade I've passed progressive legislation in a hostile and dysfunctional Richmond.  I repealed the hybrid tax, I worked with Gov. Kaine to see that new state buildings met green standards, I expanded Medicaid for immigrant mothers.  That's prepared me for Congress where I will pass progressive legislation in another hostile and dysfunctional environment.  It's important to get things done there, and I think I can start to repair the institution.

In Congress together we can address climate change aggressively, we can reduce economic inequality, including raising the minimum wage, we can get a real raise for federal workers, we can protect and expand Obamacare, we can fight against the Ryan budget and never forget the promise of Social Security and Medicare.

Now it was 11 years ago I was elected to the House and there were lots of things that no one thought possible.  They didn't think that I'd be able to deliver a $1.5 billion matching program with the federal government for Metro.  I want to protect that on Capitol Hill.  They wouldn't have thought that I could protect workers from fraud and abuse.  They wouldn't have thought that we could expand the Adult Protective Services Act.

If you stand with me on June 10th, I will stand for you in the United States Congress and there is no telling what we can accomplish together.
