April 12, 2014 - Delegate Charniele Herring was elected to the General Assembly in a special election in Jan. 2009, the first African American woman from Northern Virginia ever elected to the legislature.  Until launching her congressional bid he served as chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Virginia (elected Dec. 8, 2012 and resigned March 15, 2014).
