2016
U.S. Senate: Sen. Jerry Moran (R), seeking a second term, defeated attorney Patrick Weisner (D), and Robert D. Garrard (L) by 732,376 votes (62.2%) to 379,740 (32.1%) and 65,760 (5.5%).
U.S. House:
In the Aug. 2 primary in KS-1 ("The Big First," encompassing the western and northern 2/3rds of the state) Rep. Tim Huelskamp (CD-1) lost to Dr. Roger Marshall (R), an OB-GYN from Great Bend.  Marshall defeated farmer and educator Alan LaPolice (I), a former Republican, and Kerry Burt (L) by 169,992 votes (65.8%) to 67,739 (26.2%) and 19,366 (7.5%).
State Legislature:
All 125 House seats and 40 Senate seats were up
.  In the House the balance went from 97R, 28D to 85R, 40D; in the Senate the balance went from 32R, 8D to 31R, 9D. 
Ballot Measure: Voters approved the one statewide measure is on the ballot, the Kansas Right to Hunt and Fish Amendment, by 81.3% to 18.6%.

Post-Election: On Nov. 18, President-elect Trump announced U.S. Rep. Mike Pompeo (R) as his pick for CIA Director, opening up CD-4 (Wichita).  In a special election held on April 11, 2017, State Treasurer Ron Estes (R) defeated James Thompson (D) by 64,044 votes (52.2%) to 56,435 (46.0%) and 2,115 (1.7%) for Chris Rockhold (L).  This was the first congressional special election following the Nov. 2016 general election and the closer than expected outcome drew considerable comment.

Overview:
Trump-Pence did not have any difficulty winning Kansas' six electoral votes
, amassing a plurality of 244, 013 votes ( percentage points) and carrying 103 counties to two for Clinton (Douglas and Wyanadotte).  One visit was noted: Jill Stein held a meet and greet at the Ramada Inn in Topeka on July 2 as part of her ballot access effort.  A June 2016 poll by John Zogby Strategies showed Clinton ahead but with a large number of undecideds.

2012 Overview
Romney-Ryan won Kansas' six electoral votes with a plurality of 251,908 votes (21.72 percentage points).  The Republican ticket carried all counties except Douglas and Wyandotte.  The only candidate visit noted in the fall campaign was Libertarian VP nominee Jim Gray's appearance at the University of Kansas in Lawerence on Nov. 5.  Ballot Access News reported that the 714 write-in votes for Jill Stein were the second highest number since Kansas began allowing write-in votes for president in 1990.

2004 Overview
Not since LBJ in 1964 has a Democratic presidential candidate carried Kansas.  Bush improved upon his 2000 showing gaining a plurality of 301,463 votes (25.38 percentage points).  As in 2000, the Democratic ticket carried Douglas County (includes Lawrence, KS, home of Univ. of Kansas) and Wyandotte County/Kansas City.
