Values Voter Summit 2014 ... > |
Sept. 26, 2014 - As at the Faith
& Family Coalition's "Road to Majority" Conference back in June,
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) was introduced by a short video on his
pro-life stance. In his speech, Paul stated, "We’ve
arrived at a crossroads. We’ve arrived
at a day of reckoning. Will we
falter? Or will we thrive and rediscover
our mojo?"
"What
America needs is not just another politician or more promises, what
America
really needs is a revival," Paul said. Paul devoted a fair portion of his speech to foreign policy. He stated:
"Our
foreign
policy,
though,
has
too often accepted war
instead of peace and intervention instead of strength, leading to a
host of
unintended consequences. Toppling
secular dictators in the Middle East led, time and time again, to
chaos, and
ultimately, that chaos enabled and abetted the rise of radical Islam."
Paul declared that, "Not a penny should go to any nation that
persecutes or kills Christians."And he said: "Re-examine
our
foreign
policy;
halt
all
aid to Islamic radicals in Syria, Egypt and
elsewhere;
and take a good hard look at what our foreign policy has done. You and I must and should stand with our
fellow Christians in the Middle East, around the world.
But that does not necessarily mean war, and
it certainly does not mean arming both sides in every conflict."
Ever one to advance the cause of liberty, Paul concluded with the interesting observation that:
"I
try
to
remember
each day, Corinthians 3:17, 'where the spirit of the
lord is, there is liberty.' I hope Christians everywhere will
remember
that the reverse is true: Where is
liberty, there is always plenty of space for God."

From DNC Rapid Response: During Rand Paul’s speech at Values Voters, he said, “Had I been President…” before going on to serve up baseless attacks on the Administration’s policies. To be clear, if Rand Paul had been President: · America would have retreated from our responsibilities abroad, by ending foreign aid to all our allies, including Israel. · He would ban all legal abortion and likely common forms of birth control. · Action would not be taken to ensure women have the opportunity to receive equal pay. · Millions of Americans who now have quality, affordable health care – many for the first time ever – thanks to the Affordable Care Act wouldn’t have coverage. Rand Paul is nothing more than a far-right Republican trying to court an increasingly extreme base. The American people have a simple choice in November –between far-right Republicans like Rand Paul and Democrats who support policies that will help grow our economy. |
